Communication Development

Understanding typical development helps identify deficits or disorders, develop meaningful interventions, and leads us to realistic and attainable goals based on logical next steps.

Although individuals vary greatly, development is largely predictable as children go through developmental phases and attain language milestones at about the same age.

The information included on the PENT website summarizes key language/communication milestones, discusses cognitive foundations of language and the implications of those milestones, and considerations for assessment and intervention as it relates to supporting communication and behavior.
