Greetings PENT Cadre and Supporters!

For most of us the 2010-2011 school year is well underway. Welcome back!

We are busy making plans for the upcoming PENT Forums. This year we have a local attorney providing our keynote and the forum will focus on addressing very challenging behaviors across the developmental spectrum. Cadre members will also learn about proactive strategies to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion. We have an exciting agenda and hope to see all Cadre members there.

In light of pending legislation related to restraint and seclusion and recent advocacy organization reports, school districts may be considering crisis intervention training programs for their staff. Although many programs exist, their content and emphasis on early intervention/de-escalation versus physical restraint varies greatly. Districts should carefully research available programs to determine the one that best meets their needs.

We also continue to update the PENT website. Please feel free to forward materials that have helped you improve your training and consultation.
