Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans for Serious Behavior in California


boyThe California legislature passed a bill commonly referred to as “The Hughes Bill” in honor of Teresa Hughes, and implementing Education Code Regulations, in an attempt to ensure all students with serious behavior problems receive a functional analysis assessment and a corresponding positive behavioral intervention plan (PBIP). This PBIP is a highly detailed description of the data collected, the implementation plan itself, and the program monitoring for fidelity that will occur during the plan’s implementation by a Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM).

Serious behavior is defined as:
- Self Injurious
- Assaultive
- Serious Property Damage
- Other Pervasive Maladaptive Behavior
