BSP-QE Scoring Rubric

The Behavior Support Plan Quality Evaluation Scoring Guide was developed by the PENT Director, Diana Browning Wright, and Dr. Dru Saren, PENT Senior Consultant, with input from Dr. G. Roy Mayer, PENT Leadership Team Member. At the 2003 PENT Summit, 200 Cadre members practiced using this instrument and suggested revisions to improve educators' ability to rapidly score a behavior plan to determine whether the plan was adequate (superior to good scores) or inadequate (weak to underdeveloped scores). 440 behavior plans developed by PENT Cadre members in 2003 were evaluated by the BSP-QE development team, and inter-rater reliability was achieved by the PENT Research Associates Team, a dedicated group of 55 advanced students in applied behavior analysis in 2003 and 68 students in 2004, from California State University, Los Angeles.

This guide measures the extent to which the six key concepts (See: key concepts executive summary and key concepts full-length article). are embodied in the plan. Continued research is underway to determine the extent to which this instrument assists educators in developing more effective plans.
